Starting May 18, 2020 Uber will introduce new safety standards that are designed to help protect riders and drivers. What’s changing?

New face-cover policy
Face covers or masks will be mandatory for everyone riding or driving with Uber. According to Uber:

“This policy is designed to help protect the health and safety of you and your driver, and will go into effect on May 18, 2020. When wearing a face cover or mask, make sure it covers your face from the bridge of your nose down to your chin.”

Uber is also giving more information on how to wear a face cover or mask.

No front-seat passengers
To allow for more distance between passenger and driver, Uber is advising riders to no longer sit in the front seat.

This means every ride with Uber will have one less passenger seat available. For example, rides with UberX can have a maximum of 3 passengers—allowed only in the back seat.

Uber advises its clients and drivers to look out for more updates next week about how they’re expanding their commitment to safety.
